RENOWNED
DRUMMER TAKES THE STAGE WITH THE WBKM BOOK'EM BLUES BAND!
As our good
friend and mainstay on the skins, Matt Burr,
takes off on some necessary rock and roll business with
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, we are pleased to announce
that Russ Lawton will sit in for at least
a while or maybe (we can hope) all the way until Matt comes back
to us....we'll just have to see how it goes. Russ brings years
of drumming expertise from such great bands as Strangefolk,
The Chrome Cowboys and Trey Anastasio's Band.
Welcome Russ!

ROCK AND
ROLL HALL OF FAMER ROGER MCGUINN ON WBKM!
It was a great honor when
Byrds founder, 12-string guitar master and solo artist Roger McGuinn
agreed to do a phone interview with Eric and Tony. On Wednesday,
August 20th we dialed the number and a voice answered , "Hi,
this is Roger McGuinn." For the next 22 minutes, we had a
great conversation, like with an old friend. Which is really what
Roger and his music is, a friend, a fellow traveller through this
life. His warmth, joy for living and positive spirit can not be
underestimated. Name dropping galore, from John Candy to David
Crosby (Hey David, he really loves you, man!) to Tom Petty. Phew,
butterflies all afternoon after that chat. It will be up on the
interview page asap. Thanks again to Roger and to Camilla for
setting it up.
WBKM ANNOUNCES
THE FIRST ANNUAL....
WBKM, along with nine of
Burlington's best bands is proud to present it's first annual
Comes A Time Festival, honoring the music of Neil Young. It's
free, it's solar powered, it's all Neil. This get us charged--so
come join us!
WHAT WILL THE NEW
DAY BRING? YOU NEVER KNOW!
OK, so this is almost more
than we believe, and we were there. When long time Koval family
friend, Pam Racine of Gogol
Bordello came through town to play at Higher Ground,
it seemed like a great chance to catch up with a member of one
of New York's hottest bands. Who could know that she was bringing
the boyfriend up with her--the, and I mean The,
ringbearer---Frodo, aka Elijah Wood.
Really. Really. Here are a few pix, and the whole interview will
be on the In The Studiopage
to come.
WBKM SAYS
GET WELL MIKEY!!!
You may not know his name,
but you can't forget the face! By now you may know that our beloved
friend Mikey Van Gulden was struck by an automobile and seriously
injured while riding his bike on July 5th. Higher Ground, Nectars
and all of Mikey's musical friends gathered to offer help and
encouragement at a benefit on July 17th. Hats off to all those
folks---we are indeed one community. And kudo's to the sweetest
guy in town; Mikey, you teach us all how to handle adversity.
You may well be an angel among us. We are all blessed to know
you!
Here is a website to check
in on Mikey, and to DONATE to help him out---give 'til it hurts!
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer
and Farm Aid co-founder John Mellencamp was in Boston on Tuesday,
July 15th and WBKM was there! John and Farm Aid Executive Director
Carolyn Mugar announced that this year's location will finally
reach New England, being held at the Comcast Center in Mansfield,
MA on September 20th. Tony got the chance to meet Carolyn and
Farm Aid board member Glenda Yoder, and had a great conversation
on behalf of all Vermont farm and good food lovers! Thank you
Carolyn and Glenda for taking the time on such a busy day. Gee,
if Massachusetts is in, can Vermont be far away? Hmmm....

Yep, it's true! On Tuesday afternoon April
15th, local artist Grace Potter and drummer Matt Burr visited
the WBKM studios to discuss their amazing ride of the past few
years, during a rare week off back in their home state. We want
to thank Grace and Matt for taking the time to come up, and for
carrying the sound of Burlington to the world! These are exciting

"AHMETS HOUSE"
PREMIERS ON WBKM.ORG HONORING THE GREAT AHMET ERTEGUN OF ATLANTIC
RECORDS
January 15, 2008 marked the
debut of "Ahmet's House" a weekly feature on WBKM to
honor and spotlight the career of musical visionary and founder
of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun. It was for Ahmet that Led Zeppelin
reformed last month in London to critical acclaim, as a benefit
for the Educational Fund his wife set up in honor of Ahmet's lifelong
love of musical education. The career of Mr. Ertegun spanned 60
years, and his last act was to rock out to the Rolling Stones,
where he fell and sustained serious injury, from which he did
not recover. He discovered and influenced the careers of such
a list of folks as to be almost unbelieveable. Listen in on Tuesdays
at 9PM as Tony proudly introduces the man, his work and the lasting
effect he had on modern music. "Ahmet's House" only
on WBKM.org!
HOLY NEWS FLASH

a reality. We wish Arty the best of luck and hope we have inspired
him. We believe there's plenty of room on the top of the mountain
for all to claim a piece of the landscape---so hat's off to Artie
in his endeavours! We've got no choice but to Carry On!
NEWS FLASH! NOTED
